What we know

A lodge on Jarre Creek west of Sedalia, which the county's resource map describes as a popular destination for fried chicken and gambling, citing the Rocky Mountain News of Aug. 10, 1936 (S-0123). In July 1922 a silver fox farm was started on 250 acres of the Woodbine Lodge ranch (mapped as the Jarre Canyon silver fox farm). In the fall of 1924 the Chicago gang leader Dion O'Banion spent a month 'at the Woodbine lodge, seven miles from Sedalia,' with Louis 'Diamond Jack' Alterie and their wives, and left for Chicago about Oct. 20 with guns bought in Denver; he was shot dead in his Chicago flower shop on Nov. 10 (Rocky Mountain News, Nov. 12, 1924; S-0202).

Where it was

Pin on the Douglas County Historic Resource Map (DCHR-128; Douglas County and Douglas County Libraries, 2012, on the Larkspur Historical Society's Google map, S-0123), about seven and a half miles southwest of Sedalia, which fits the 'seven miles from Sedalia' of 1924 (S-0202). Good to a few hundred feet.

Placed from a written description, such as a land section, a distance from a landmark or an old survey note.
