What we know

Golddale post office, June 29, 1882 to Feb. 12, 1885, George S. McCracken postmaster, mail to Franktown (Bauer, Post Offices of Douglas County, 2003, via S-0123). Bauer puts it about three miles south of Russellville, so the office was not at Russellville itself (see the Russellville entry).

Where it was

Bauer's description, as given on the county map (DCHR-144, S-0123): a ranch in the northeast quadrant of Russellville Road and Anderson Road (County Road 52), 3.3 miles south of Tomichi Road, the road to the Russellville site; the map's pin is there. Good to a few hundred feet.

Placed from a written description, such as a land section, a distance from a landmark or an old survey note.
