Spruce Mountain

Landmark rocks, buttes and mountainsHistoric or vanishedDouglas County

What we know

Three miles southwest of Greenland. A Greenland history records a fire on its south side in 1939, two caves, a hermit about 1900, and an Army plane ('C42,' perhaps a C-47) that crashed on the mountain in 1947 (Higginson, 1984, S-0045). The crash is not otherwise documented in our files.

Where it was

GNIS's Spruce Mountain summit (Larkspur quadrangle); the events below are on the mountain, not at this point. Good to about a mile.

Placed from a written description, such as a land section, a distance from a landmark or an old survey note.
