What we know
Two one-story meat markets (317 and 319) and a one-and-a-half-story notions store (318) in Nov. 1895; in Oct. 1900 the sheet shows a dwelling and cobbler's shop at 317 and the notions store at 318 (S-0147). The 1888 directory's meat market was O. P. Jackson's (Lavelett, S-0011, p. 29).
Where it was
317-319 Second Street, south side, on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Monument, sheet 1, Nov. 1895 and Oct. 1900 (Library of Congress, S-0147); placed by fitting the sheet to today's Front, Washington and Jefferson street crossings at 1st and 3rd streets (six points, each within about 15 feet of the fit). Good to about a hundred feet.
