What we know

Two-story French-farmhouse-style house built around a courtyard in 1911 by Benjamin O. Allen, with two half-timbered French-provincial barns about a quarter mile away; a working cattle ranch in 1976 (PPLD records of survey B33; the 1987 Black Forest Preservation Plan's Map 2 No. 2). The Allen Ranch passed in the 1940s to Channing Sweet and then to George Hardesty, who kept only the valley that became Sun Hills (von Ahlefeldt p. 91). Ellett (p. 3) puts the Edgar Lumber and Box Factory (1922) on the Allen Ranch; von Ahlefeldt puts the Edgar mill near Gov. Shoup's house, south of the Black Forest crossroads.

Where it was

15555 Highway 83 (PPLD records of survey photos B33), U.S. Census geocoder (street-range interpolation, 2026-10-05); Shamrock Ranch Road in OpenStreetMap leaves Highway 83 eastward at the same latitude. Good to about a quarter mile.

A street address placed along its block; good to a few hundred feet.
