What we know

One-story saloon (128) and barber shop (127), on both Sanborn maps (S-0147). Probably Henry Limbach's: Lavelett's photo of about 1917 shows 'Burrell's Billiard Hall formerly Limbach's Saloon & Barbershop' on Front Street next to the Walker building (S-0011, pp. 37, 57), with 'a narrow one-way passage between Limbach's saloon and Rod Walkers store' (p. 140). Limbach is the saloonkeeper in the 1884, 1886 and 1888 directories (pp. 27-29). Lavelett says two men were shot and killed in this saloon in separate incidents (p. 57). The maps name no owners.

Where it was

127 and 128 Front Street, just north of the stone store, on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Monument, sheet 1, Nov. 1895 and Oct. 1900 (Library of Congress, S-0147); placed by fitting the sheet to today's Front, Washington and Jefferson street crossings at 1st and 3rd streets (six points, each within about 15 feet of the fit). Good to about a hundred feet.
