What we know

One-story frame saloon on the Nov. 1895 Sanborn map, vacant in Oct. 1900. Next door at 224, the 1895 'B. & S.' (the maps' abbreviation for boots and shoes) had become a carpet-weaving shop by 1900, and 226 held a meat market and merchandise storage (S-0147).

Where it was

225 Washington Street, east side, on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Monument, sheet 1, Nov. 1895 and Oct. 1900 (Library of Congress, S-0147); placed by fitting the sheet to today's Front, Washington and Jefferson street crossings at 1st and 3rd streets (six points, each within about 15 feet of the fit). Good to about a hundred feet.
