What we know
Joseph Loraine, born in Florissant, Missouri, in 1854, came to Colorado about 1900 and bought the ranch in 1905; in 1907 he married Ada Bucks, daughter of the Spring Valley pioneers Harrison and Sallie Bucks. The ranch grew past 300 acres and sent milk to the Larkspur and Colorado Springs creameries. Joseph died in 1937 and Ada in 1946; both are buried at Spring Valley. Their daughter Ruth (1908-1996) taught for 47 years; Lorraine Elementary in Fountain is named for her. County landmark, April 14, 2015 (S-0126).
Where it was
Pin on the Douglas County Historic Resource Map (DCHR-014; Douglas County and Douglas County Libraries, 2012, on the Larkspur Historical Society's Google map, S-0123). Where that map and ours place the same site, the pins mostly fall within about 300 feet. Good to a few hundred feet.
Placed from a written description, such as a land section, a distance from a landmark or an old survey note.
