## What we know

The Woodmen of the World camp organized in July 1896 and built its hall 'on the south side of Second Street'; the camp merged into Colorado Springs' Camp 5 in 1929 and sold the hall to W. E. Higby; it went to the Monument Homemaker Club in 1941 and to the town in 1965, and served as town hall until the new hall replaced it in 1980 (Lavelett p. 71; PPLD records of survey B66, B67). Dances, card parties and early Catholic masses were held in it (Lavelett). The Oct. 1900 Sanborn sheet shows no hall on this block, so it was probably built after 1900. The 1895 town hall, a different building, stood at 133 Front Street (mapped).

## Where it was

166 Second Street, Monument, by Census street-range interpolation (Census geocoder, 2026-10-07). Lavelett: 'The Woodman Hall was torn down and replaced by the current Town Hall in 1980' (S-0011, p. 71); the town's 2017 roofing notice puts the 'Old Town Hall/Chamber of Commerce Offices' at 166 Second Street, and the Chamber moved there in 2015. That the Old Town Hall is the 1980 building is an inference. Good to a few hundred feet.

A street address placed along its block; good to a few hundred feet.
