## What we know

The only mill on the line in 1866, 11.4 chains (about 750 feet) east of the People's Fort. Olive Oakes put her husband's fort 'about twenty-five yards to the south of D.C.'s sawmill' (as summarized on a draft panel, Larkspur Historical Society binder 4 p. 378); the survey's spacing is wider, so whose mill this was is not settled.

## Where it was

General Land Office field notes, T9S R67W (Pierce, 1866), p. 93: '51.50 Saw mill 2 ch N. of line' between Secs. 21 and 16, 1.4 chains west of Plum Creek (Larkspur Historical Society binder 1 p. 120). 51.50 of 80.20 chains along the section line, 2 chains north; good to about 100 feet.

Placed from a written description, such as a land section, a distance from a landmark or an old survey note.
