## What we know

E. V. McCullough bought the land in 1928 for a pelt business: 80 acres, 100 pens, Platinum, Blue, Silver and 'Pearltina' foxes fed on old horses, cattle and sheep; Melvin Olson sawed the lumber on the place. It closed in 1951, after the government lifted limits on Russian fur imports; 1,000 pelts in New York storage were sold to pay the bill, and an employee's family bought the property. Pure black foxes, whose pelts were worthless, were let go (Danna Hamling, from interviews with Wallace Turner, an employee from 1928; Larkspur Historical Society binder 9 pp. 60-61). Turner's tour of the area calls it 'the McCoullough Fox Farm of old' (Larkspur Historical Society binder 1 p. 228); Fox Farm Road is named for a fox farm (Larkspur Historical Society binder 1 p. 94).
