## What we know

Two-story frame general store with platform scales in front and a long iron-clad warehouse behind it on Washington Street, on both Sanborn maps; the engraver spelled it 'Dunehee Blk.' (1895) and 'Dunehee Block' (1900) (S-0147). When fire destroyed three business houses on the north side of Second at Washington on Sunday, Aug. 18, 1889, 'the store of Will Lierd in the Dunchee block on the south side of the street' was saved (Lavelett, S-0011, p. 79). The name is probably that of A. Dunshee, proprietor of the Monument House in the 1888 directory (p. 29).

## Where it was

320 Second Street, the southwest corner of Second and Washington, on the Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of Monument, sheet 1, Nov. 1895 and Oct. 1900 (Library of Congress, S-0147); placed by fitting the sheet to today's Front, Washington and Jefferson street crossings at 1st and 3rd streets (six points, each within about 15 feet of the fit). Good to about a hundred feet.
