Henrietta Dietemann and her son, about five, were killed and scalped while her husband was in Denver; her daughter, sister-in-law and a farmhand escaped. Their bodies were shown in Denver (News, Sept. 2, 1868; von Ahlefeldt p. 24).

## Where it was

Scott's X 'Dietemann Massacre Aug. 27, 1868', just west of Comanche Creek: Scott, Historic Trail Map of the Denver 1x2 Quadrangle (USGS I-2639, 1999, S-0106), symbol read from the reprojected sheet good to a few hundred feet). 'Henrietta Dietermann and her son … killed near their house on Comanche Creek' (Weekly News, Sept. 2, 1868, S-0097).

Read from Glenn R. Scott's USGS historic trail map of 1999 and confirmed by a second, independent source.
